About the Bau- und Verkehrsdepartement
From the avenues of trees, playgrounds and community areas to the tram network, the Rhine promenade and the new urban district – the Department of Construction and Transport of the Canton of Basel-Stadt manages the urban development of the canton, promotes safe and innovative mobility and fosters the appeal of public spaces. The department takes care of green spaces, contributes to a good urban climate and maintains public spaces and cantonal infrastructure. It also grants building and operating permits for catering establishments, guarantees the rights entered in the land register and provides geo-information. Its approximately 1,350 employees thereby help to ensure a good quality of life in the canton.
